Sabathia wins a Temper Packed Game 1.

Posted: August 30, 2011 in Sports

C.C. Pitches great in Game 1 of the 3 game series between Boston and New York, with 10 strikeouts and only 2 walks, and moves the Yankees within a half game of the Red Sox in the AL East.

But the big story of this game, missed opportunities by the Red Sox,  overall 13 hits and only 2 runs. Saltalamacchia and Gonzalez stranded 12 runs combined and had a combined total of 6 strikeouts. Tempers were flaring in this game with a bench clearing after Francisco Cervelli was hit by a pitch also there was 2 ejections, Yankees pitching coach Larry Rothschild, and Yankees Manager Joe Girardi.

This game and the next two mean a lot to the AL East pennant race, as of now the Yankees are half of a game behind the Red Sox. Game 2 of the Series will be pitched by Josh Beckett and Phil Hughes.

How the Cubs Can win a world Series.

Posted: August 29, 2011 in Sports

The Cubs can potentially win a World Series within the next 10 years. Here is a checklist for them.

Chicago Cubs Playoff Checklist.

  1. Trade Carlos Zambrano. I would trade him to the Giants for Aaron Rowand, a decent player with not as much temper and locker room issues.
  2. Trade Alfonso Soriano. He is a great guy and a class act, but not that good of a player any more.
  3. Play Some small ball, without much offensive power they can utilize this to get some runs.
  4. Work on Chris Carpenter, although he has had trouble in the minors, with work he can be a good pitcher.
  5. Get a stronger bullpen.
  6. Trade for some 7,8, and 9 hitters and get production out of them.
This will get them to the playoffs.
Cubs World Series Checklist.
  1. Make it to the playoffs to get some more players interested in years to come. Most players want to play on a winning team.
  2. Get Theo Epstein as a GM, The mastermind behind the Red Sox.
If the cubs do this, the have a shot. It wont happen next year, but it can happen.

Possible reaction if Cubs win.

Detroit Lions, Buy Or sell?

Posted: August 28, 2011 in Sports

Sell.

This team has so much great talent that it is very hard to sell. I say this for one main reason, they play in the NFC North. I honestly believe that the Lions would be a playoff team in some other division, ex. NFC West, they would be in the playoffs.

This team has a great, young, and talented QB in Matt Stafford. In the third preseason game against the Patriots, he threw for over 200 yards and 2 touchdowns in less than one half of football. Another point for the lions, is their pass rush that was constantly giving pressure to Tom Brady.

Like I stated above, this team plays in the NFC North. So they have to face teams like the Defending Champion Packers, The Bears, the new look Vikings. That is too much for a team like the Lions

Overall from the Lions, Great talent, young team, and potential for years to come… just not now.

Is Derek Jeter to Old?

Posted: August 28, 2011 in Sports

I made a mistake in a previous entry, I said that Jeter was to old and was not performing as usual.

In the past month he has been anything but usual, he has been better. Lets start with his batting average, .419 for the month of august, he has crossed the plate 39 times which is twelve more times this month than MVP Candidate Curtis Granderson, he has an on base percentage of nearly 500. And has hit 25 percent of his season RBI’s in this month.

Now were talking about one of the greatest players of the best MLB franchise of all time, he is a legend of the game, But is he to old? I still think he is. He has had a fantastic month and a better overall year than last year. who has appeared in 17 seasons in the MLB. That’s only 3 less than Brett Favre. So yes he is to old to perform like he used to, he cant hit .330 with 80 rbi’s anymore.  As for this season the Yankees need him in the playoffs, but in any season to come it is impossible to expect numbers like he has shown in the past.

Sleeper Pick for the NFC

Posted: August 27, 2011 in Sports

The Dallas Cowboys. For one reason, defense. Rob Ryan is going to have this defense bring it on every play. If I’m Mike Vick or Eli Manning, its a “double Chinstrap game” I’m Going to be scared. This defense is going to be a load to handle for any offense, especially the eagles offensive line. This offensive line is in some trouble, they are still experimenting on setups in the 3rd preseason game. So there is obviously some trouble there. Now the Eagles and cowboys do not face each other until week 8 so it should be worked out by then.

This team can win a lot of games with their defense, looking at their schedule they can win at least 7 games this season, and most likely more than that. This team is going to be the surprise team to look out for this year. They don’t really have a shot at a Superbowl, but do not count them out of the playoffs.

Remember this when you see them at 9-7 or 10-6 at the end of the season.

New York VS. Boston 2000-2010 seasons

The Best

If New York has more sports teams, shouldn’t they have more titles in the past decade+?

Yes they should, Seriously what kind of city has ELEVEN sports teams(including New Jersey) and  only 8 championships from Pro sports teams in the past decade.

On the other hand we have Boston/New England. With 5 teams and 7 championships. Do the math yourselves, but that is clearly a better ratio than New York.

With all 4 major sports teams winning at least once in the past decade, and playoff appearances from the 4 major teams just about every year in the past 5 years. It goes to show how much a better sports city Boston is VS. New York.

And in all honesty, Boston deserves it after all the city has been through. I love this rivalry and i hope it never ends.

Not exactly  “power” conference but they are getting close.

5. Boston College Eagles. Why? They find a way to win when they need to,DEFENSE! their defense averaged only 19 points against a game, and Montel Harris who is less than 200 yards away from being Boston College’s all time rusher.

4. Maryland. Why? Danny O’Brien, this guy is the best quarterback in the ACC, look at the talent he’s got, one solid receiver Torrey Smith. Not to mention 2200+ yards passing and 21 touchdowns last year.

3. North Carolina. Why? Toughness, they play through anything on and off the field, last year with susspensions and this year the coach leaving 8 days before camp started. One downside that i’m not sure of is Bryn Renner at QB, he has only thrown for 14 yards in his college career.

2.Virginia Tech. Why? Consistency, Head coach has been there for 25 years, Great talent on both sides of the ball, make Va Tech the number 2 team in the ACC.

1. Florida State. Why? Jimbo Fisher is a fantastic coach, they have fantastic players at every posistion, and opportunity to beat Oklahoma in the biggest game for them this season. If they win that game, they have a chance to play for a national championship.

Golf Update

Posted: August 25, 2011 in Sports

Two main story lines for today, The Barclays and PGA Playoffs, and Fred Couples picking Tiger Woods as captains choice for the presidents cup team.

The PGA Tour playoffs are a spectacular addition to the PGA Tour season, before once the PGA Championship was done people stopped watching. You cant blame them, with no Majors left to fight for the big name players Started their off season and there was no real good golf in September. Now with the playoffs we have a way to watch some more spectacular golf. So far in this playoffs The Barclays have started and the main topic is not even about golf. It all about Hurricane Irene. People don’t know if the first round will even be completed, tour officials have said nothing will be determined until weather is closer.

Now about Tiger woods, Fred Couples and I agree that he is still one of the best in the world, A lot of golfer would love to have his finishes, he finished top 5 at The Masters, Runner up at the Tavistock Cup, and 10th at the World Golf Championship- Cadillac Championship. Those are some good results. Now all of these were before his injury and he has not played well since then but he has showed promise with many great shots at other Tournaments after the injury, but without many good finishes. Not to mention he missed the cut at the PGA Championship. Tiger will be a great asset in the Presidents Cup and he will help the team.

Will Irene ruin the Playoffs?

With hard decisions and controversial picks for the National Title game in recent years I think its time for an 8 team playoff system.

The 6 main BCS conferences (ACC, Big Ten, Big 12, Big East, Pac 12, Southeastern) will each get 1 bid for their top contender.

The other 2 contenders would be at large bids, Competitors from non BCS Conferences. Examples Boise State (Western Athletic Conference) and TCU, (Mountain West Conference)

The teams would play a one game knock out to decide who moves on.

The winner of the playoff will win the National Championship, and the two losers of the semi finals would play a consolation game which would be the Rose Bowl.

I hope the NCAA Officials decide to do this and keep minor bowl games for players that don’t make the playoffs.

Overall this would be a much for exciting finish to the season that would get more views and better ratings.

Bad System

Every Body needs to calm down about Granderson. He is a great player and right now he would be my vote for AL MVP. I’m just stating a case for Jacoby Ellsbury. Jacoby has more hits, stolen bases, not to mention his defense, 1.000 field percentage(perfect), and a .313 batting average. All of these stats beat Granderson.

Also you can look at his supporting cast of players, Adrian Gonzalez,  Dustin Pedroia, David Ortiz, Kevin Youkilis, and Carl Crawford. Compared to Granderson with, Teixeira, Rodriguez, and Cano. Ya ya i left out Jeter. Why? he is to old and not having his best season. It is much harder to shine with alot of talent around you, because the Red Sox have so many offensive weapons that can show you up, it gives Jacoby another “point” towards MVP.

We still have a month+ of baseball for each player to shine, it will be a great show.
